Very helpful and easy to use with publisher specific tools not found in other books.

I have been in coding for almost 20 years. In that time, I have come to rely on my code books. Encoders are helpful, but I never want to lose my book skills, so I tend to be discerning when it comes to the use of a new publisher. I am happy to say that the AAPC has a winner with their publication of the 2016 ICD-10-CM book. I have used their version for the past two years and have enjoyed seeing the changes to the book in that time. Every code book publisher tries to provide tools that can be used to make a coder’s life easier. I think the AAPC succeeds. I especially like the detailed anatomical diagrams – they have been helpful in vascular, neuro, and orthopedic coding, the diagrams are detailed and in full color. They are great for refreshing the memory for many of those more specific orthopedic codes. I also appreciate having the chapter specific guidelines at the beginning of each chapter – this is genius!! No more flipping back and forth through over 1000 pages to get to chapter specifics regulations and that is a huge time saver. It's cheaper than other publishers who want 100 dollars and more, and its worth every penny!! Very happy with my purchase!

Font too small, index very difficult to read - buy AMA's!

Smaller font used for 2017 manual - too small! Index to Diseases & Injuries - I think they meant for the vertical lines to help us see under what category entries fall - but the color of ink is too dark and it nearly makes you blind trying to look up anything. I suggest to go with an even lighter shade of black ink (prints gray) and with thinner vertical lines. Because the first/furthest left vert line in index is darkest, very difficult to find what you're looking for. While this updated manual has the new codes, I'm using my old one to save my eyes. Also, book is entirely too big to handle...please separate into two volumes. Had to re-bind mine to be able to lift it and use it.
