Excellent science fiction

This is an excellent science fiction - combining science, mythology and adventure in one pulsating and absorbing story line. There is also quite a bit of educational information for young readers. I got to know about the Daruma Doll and the underground city of Derinkuyu in the context of an engrossing story. Highly recommended.

Mixed Feelings. Can I give 3.5?

I gave this four stars, but honestly I had mixed feelings. The book was well written, and much of it made sense and was well thought out. However, there was one little chunk that lost me here. It basically stated that victims, in order to recover, needed to discover within themselves what they had done in order to cause their aggressor to harm them. I had SERIOUS issues with that. Skip that chapter and it isn't a bad little book

The most amazing book I've read about trauma, and how to break out of the cycle of trauma. Yoder packs so much information in such a little book. I think it is a book that everyone she read, especially if you work with people because you will see how most of us are effected in some way by trauma.

About the Author
Helga Kuhse, former Director of the Centre for Human Bioethics at Monash University, Melbourne, is now Senior Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre. She is author and co-author of several books including Caring: Nurses, Women and Ethics (Blackwell 1996), Willing to Listen – Wanting to Die (1995), Individuals, Humans and Persons: Questions of Life and Death (with Peter Singer, 1994). She is the co-founder of the Blackwell journal Bioethics and is co-editor of the accompanying volume A Companion to Bioethics (Blackwell 1999).

Peter Singer is Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at the University Center for Human Values, Princeton University. He is the author of Animal Liberation, first published in 1975, and is widely credited with triggering the modern animal rights movement. His Practical Ethics is one of the most widely used texts in applied ethics, and Rethinking Life and Death received the 1995 Australian National Book Council’s Banjo Award for nonfiction. He was the foundation president of the International Association of Bioethics.

Mary Zimmerman's credits as an adapter and a director include Metamor­phoses, The Arabian Nights, The Odyssey, Journey to the West (all published by North­western) and The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci. Her work has been produced at the Lookingglass Theatre and Goodman Theatre of Chicago; on Broadway at Circle in the Square; in New York at Second Stage, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the Manhattan Theatre Club; and at many other major regional theaters around the country and abroad. She has also directed at the Metropolitan Opera. Zimmerman is the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship and won a Tony Award for her direction of Metamorphoses. She is a professor of performance studies at Northwestern University.

I love Zimmerman's work and this is a pretty interesting adaptation. She gives many great ideas but leaves the director with some freedom to create their own vision.
