This is a thoughtfully put together book. I almost wrote a review after had only read the introduction. In it Lee writes "I have learnt so much over the years, and my only hope for anyone engaging with channeled material is that they use the insights and ideas presented to remember their own power, rather than give a power to spirit that is greater than we give to our humanity."
This book is nothing short of empowering heart wisdom which everyone can use at any time. Thats priceless.

Best purchase of 2017

This is my favorite purchase of 2017. I've been a faithful follower of Dennis the Prescott for a while, and his food pictures are unfairly gorgeous. He can COOK and make it look stunning and inviting. I eyed this book for a few weeks after it came out and couldn't hold off any longer, and it was the best decision. The cookbook is: well made (quality is THERE), stunningly beautiful, fun to read (I KNOW I'm not the only one who reads cookbooks for fun), written with love, AND, most importantly, the recipe diversity and quality is there.

I am a decent cook. I am not bad, I am not super inventive. I can get by and eat well and feed others and we're all happy. That being said, this is a cookbook for people who love food and like making it. The recipes are foolproof (I've made several so far and they've all been outstanding). He gives plenty of tips to ensure your success, and he gives the story behind the carefully created recipes! You'll feel like he is a friend by the end of this, and who doesn't love a friend who knows food???

The recipes are not super expensive, either, which I really appreciate. A lot of them don't even require a ton of ingredients or a ton of time (for most)! These are for weeknight dinners, special occasions, impressing your MIL, absolutely any occasion and there's something for everyone!

Do yourself a favor and buy this ASAP and eat delicious. I am SO sold.

As the preface of this admirable but ultimately disappointing memoir states, Rodriguez, an award-winning poet and publisher of the small press Tia Chucha, decided to document his youth as an East Los Angeles gang member in an effort to steer his teenaged son, Ramiro, away from the gang that he recently joined. A member of various Latino gangs based in and around the South San Gabriel Valley during the late 1960s, Rogriguez participated in random acts of violence, and was imprisoned on several occasions for the crimes he committed. Unfortunately, he offers frustratingly little detail behind the facts of his life and activity in the gangs. Rodriquez presents colorful characters and highly charged events, such as shootings, Mexican funerals, rapes and arrests, but his writing style renders much of that rich material forgettable.

Always running.

It was a alright book about a boy growing up in a age when gang violence was it's all time high in L.A. Struggling to survive in a dangerous neighborhood with people aiming at you once you leave your territory. On how he was able to make something good to get him out the gang life but at times it would suck him right back in trying to make a good choice before it would be to late.

It's amazing what people endure...

Luis grew up in LA being raised by a Mexican family. He grows up way too quickly and starts stealing and committing crimes before becoming a teen. Soon enough drugs, sex and violence come into play, and lines and territories are divided across neighborhoods. Ultimately he ends up losing most of his friends to shootings and violent acts. He also blames the cops for constantly targeting Mexicans and African Americans. The educational system does not provide proper courses for minorities. They are tracked to take on vocational occupations while whites and Asians are taking English Lit and Trig on the path to college. If we provided protection, safety and good opportunities for these kids then they would not feel the need to join gangs to gain acceptance, protection and a sense of belonging.

Empowering and Emotional

I had no choice when it came to reading this book. It was after all, required in my college english class in order to survive the masses of quizzes and essays. But I will say that although I did not want to read this book at first, once I read the first couple pages I was hooked. I no longer wanted to read it just because it was required, now I was reading it for pleasure. Although the book is strongly graphic especially on the sex parts, it is done in a most tasteful manner. As a young latina born and raised in America, I was very touched by what my people had gone through in the past, and it is knowledge I had ignored taking the liberty I have now for granted. I really recommend this book if you're up to take a good dose of eye opener.
