About the Author
Scott Granneman is an author, educator, and small business owner. He has written seven books and contributed to two. In addition, he was a columnist for SecurityFocus, one of the largest and most important security-focused sites on the Web, and Linux Magazine while it was in print.
As an educator, he has taught thousands of people of all ages–from preteens to senior citizens–on a wide variety of topics, including both literature and technology. He is currently an adjunct professor at Washington University in St. Louis and at Webster University, where he teaches a variety of courses about technology, social media, the Internet, and Web development. With the shift in focus over the past few decades to Linux and other open-source technologies, he has worked to bring knowledge of these powerful new directions in software to people at all technical skill levels.
As a Principal of WebSanity, a website planning, development, and hosting firm with clients in 12 states, he manages the firm’s Linux-based servers and infrastructure, researches new technologies, and works closely with other partners on the underlying WebSanity Content Management System (CMS).

Must have for anyone touching the command line!!!

I became interested in the first edition of this book several months ago when my old boss gave out IT books and someone else got to it before me. I was able to take a look through it and was very impressed, so I looked it up on Amazon and found it was only $20. However as I was about to order I noticed the 2nd edition being mentioned and figured with how old this is it would be worth it to wait the few months. I was so right about that. This book is just plain and simple WONDERFUL! It gives great examples for real world use (something missing in a lot of IT books), explains things in a very straightforward manner, features a very slim design pages (a 500 page book I can slide easily into my coat pocket), and best of all NOT BORING. This is a book I would recommend highly to anyone who works with, plays with, or even has a small interest in Linux.

Even better than the first edition! And chapters that changed are posted on author's web site.
Great resource if you are dealing with Linux regularly but you need a compact guide for certain aspects of Linux that you just can't remember at the moment and want to save time instead of digging through man pages.

A "MUST HAVE" book for all those who want to be productive with the Linux command line!

Scott really "knocked it out of the ballpark" with this book! One of the most difficult things to do with the Linux command line is deciphering man or info pages - most of which have no EXAMPLES of how the command is used. NOT GOOD!
Scott "fills the gap" admirably in his book. The Linux command line functionality is a MUST HAVE skill for anyone wanting to really be productive with Linux and this book is an absolute MUST HAVE for any person wanting to work with it. Buy it ... you won't have any regrets!
