Jacob Rogozinski's provocative reformulation of Freud encapsulates this book's fundamental insight, namely, that every ego – every me – must invent itself. In advancing this thesis, Rogozinski argues against philosophers who have tried to commit egocide. His principal targets are Heidegger and Lacan, but he could just as easily have picked any of the major post-idealist philosophers of the twentieth century. This leads him to oppose Heidegger's reduction of the ego to being-in-the-world and Lacan's characterization of the ego as essentially and irremediably alienated. Original, Brilliant, and Simply Outstanding

What Jacob Rogozinski did in this short, but incredibly well put together text was perhaps one of the greatest strides in the modern development of psychoanalysis and the philosophical implications of the modern ego filled world. Beginning the text with an all out attack on Heidegger and Lacan who both, according to Rogozinski, were responsible for the 'egocide' of the modern era, Rogozinski traces the fate of the ego in the modern world, the demise of the ontological, linguistic, and 'wholly other' methods of analysis and replaces it all with a structural, Phenomenological analysis of the ego-proper.

He then continues into a Husserlian Epokh� of his own (think, meditation) through which he discovers and works through what a proper reductive egoanlysis might look like, with striking results. For both analysts and philosophers alike -- this text will not disappoint.

And I repeat, this text is arguably the most relevant work to come out in the field of Philosophy of Psychology since the printing of Husserl's 1925 lecture notes of Phenomenological Psychology. Do not let this one go by unnoticed.

Nested security is neither irreversible nor static: ethnic relations may easily go from nested security to nested insecurity when the regional or geopolitical structures that support them are destabilized through some exogenous pressure or shocks, including kin state intervention, transborder ethnic ties, refugee flows, or other factors related to regional conflict processes. Jenne argues that regional security regimes are ideally suited to the management of internal conflicts, because neighbors that have a strong incentive to work for stability provide critical hard-power backing to soft-power missions. Jenne tests her theory against two regional security regimes in Central and Eastern Europe: the interwar minorities regime under the League of Nations (German minorities in Central Europe, Hungarian minorities in the Carpathian Basin, and disputes over the �land Islands, Memel, and Danzig), and the ad hoc security regime of the post–Cold War period (focusing on Russian-speaking minorities in the Baltic States and Albanian minorities in Montenegro, Macedonia, and northern Kosovo).

Charlotte M. Frieze is a contributing editor at Town & Country. A noted garden writer and frequent lecturer, Ms. Frieze was the garden editor at House and Garden for more than nine years. She is a registered landscape architect, a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, and a member of the New York Botanical Garden Horticultural Committee. Her previous books include Social Gardens and The Zone Garden series. She lives in New York City and gardens in Little Compton, Rhode Island.
 
Charles A. Birnbaum is founder and president of the Cultural Landscape Foundation. A Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, he previously served as coordinator of the National Park Service Historic Landscape Initiative.

Most of all I enjoyed the succinct, helpful descriptions alongside each garden of such things as name of architect, name of photographer, climate, existing conditions, and special considerations.
