Not like they used to be..

As vehicles have become more complicated, they've also become more difficult for the Sunday mechanic to work on. The Haynes/Chilton (same books now) manuals reflect this fact. They walk you through the physical stuff, but the electronic and computer elements.. they're really not well addressed anymore.

Still, this is a good book to have in your truck... just in case. Don't buy the more expensive Chilton's manual. Chilton and Haynes are now the same thing, and you'll just be buying a more expensive copy of this book.. for no real reason.

A good reference manual for most.

I got this because the more narrow range manuals (year of truck) were back ordered and this seemed like it was the same manual. It's not. It's got detail but not as much as the specific year of the truck. That said, it covers a lot and although not as specific as I would have preferred, not bad as a general reference that will get you through most repair....or at least give you an overview that keeps you on course.

Not enough wiring diagrams

I bought this for the wiring diagrams. To my surprise it is just the main systems, not the entire wiring...so the seat swap I'm trying to do I cannot until I find the wiring diagrams someplace else. I may use it in the future for other stuff but probably not.

About the Author
Dr. Charles H. Atwood received his BS degree in chemistry from Millsaps College and his PhD in nuclear chemistry from Florida State University. His postdoctoral research was conducted at the Australian National University. A temporary appointment at the University of Georgia was followed by a ten-year stay at Mercer University, where Dr. Atwood developed a series of papers on teaching nuclear topics in the chemistry curriculum. In 1995, he joined the faculty of the University of Georgia's chemistry department and was named Coordinator of Freshman Chemistry in 1997. At the University of Georgia, Dr. Atwood developed significant use of instructional technology in the freshman chemistry program, including pioneering computerized testing. In 2011 Dr. Atwood accepted the Ronald and Eileen Ragsdale Professor of Chemical Education position at the University of Utah. Over the last ten years, his research group has studied the use of item response theory to analyze student performance on assessments, with the ultimate goal of improving student learning and performance. He is the author of two other successful SURVIVAL GUIDES. His hobbies include astronomy, traveling, and bicycle riding.

About the Author
Finley Hooper is professor of history at Wayne State University. His Greek Realities, published originally by Charles Scribner's Sons, is now reissued by Wayne State University Press as a companion volume to his new work on Roman history, Roman Realities (Wayne State University Press, 1978).

A History With A View

Hooper's book panoramas the history of Hellenic civilization from Mycenae to the Alexandrine Age. His grasp of art, archaeology, architecture, and complete command of his sources inform the magistrial prose that pours off of every page. That said, the size of the book is manageable. Hooper's view of history is similar to Thucydides: non-idealistic, and mistrustful of extreme forms of democracy. His views come as through strongly in interpeting the course of Greek history and civilization in this book as they did in his lectures when I was his student at Wayne State. This is most evident in his chapters on the three Athenian generations streching fron Marathon to defeat in the Peloponesian War. The feeling of inevitability, as the city-state moves from triumphant action to hurbis, exemplified by the debate over the expedition to Syracuse,to defeat at the hands of Sparta, reads like a Greek tragedy. Superbly written basic history of Ancient Greece

I read this book in college over thirty years ago as a textbook in my Greek History class. It is one of the best history books I have ever read. If you are wanting to explore the great classic primary writings on history such as Thucydides' history of the Peloponnesian War, or if you want to read the best philosophical works ever, such as Plato's dialogues, or if you want to read the great dramas by Aeschylus, Sophocles, or Euripides, or even if you want to read the compelling historical novels of Mary Renault, reading this remarkable survey of ancient Greek history and culture will give you exactly what you need to understand those works better.

A couple of years after my class in Greek history, I gave a copy of this book to my father, an avid reader. He loved the book and told me that it was the best general history he had ever read. I concur and I hope that colleges are still teaching Greek history with this book.

An amazing exploration of ancient Greek history brought to life by a gifted and brilliant historian and philosopher

I just purchased a used copy of this book. It has been nearly thirty years since I last read it and I can scarcely believe how time has so quickly past. I had the privilege of taking a course in ancient Greek history taught by Dr. Finley Hooper and for for some reason found myself thinking about the course and how enjoyable it was. Few historical texts bring history to life the way this books does. If you are at all interested in ancient Greek History you need to read this brilliant book. Dr. Hooper was an amazing instructor with a very pointed sense of humor. He was not so unlike Professor Kingsfield from the Paperchase for those who have seen the movie or series. I will share a real story. During class he began discussing the Greek ideal of beauty... the amazing statues, etc. Dr. Finely commented on how ancient Greek statues were able to augment and exaggerate beauty to convey the very Platonic form of beauty to the mortal mind. He the joked and said "no one is as perfect or beautiful as a Greek stature.. let alone Mr. Vitale" It appeared he was making a joke at my expense.... I was a fat non-so-attractive sort who none-the-less commanded a certain amount of attention from peers who respected my intellect. At first I was chagrined. Before I responded, a woman in the class stood to defend my honor, chastising Dr. Finely for his callousness. Dr. Finely pointed at her and instructed her to sit down. He then said "Ms. Jones, Mr. Vitale knows that it is not important what I am saying about him. What is important is that he is a person worthy of comment which is something very rare indeed!" I am sure he enjoyed toying with me and Ms. Jones. But, the reality of the situation was that he was teaching us all a valuable lesson about what "beauty" (the good and the true) really means in the spirit of the ancient Greek philosophers. No one left that class unchanged for the better. If you have a chance to pick up a copy of this book... snatch it without hesitation.

In order to understand the story of Dune and it's sequels, you need to understand what happened to the imperium before Paul and his jihad. This tells that tale, and personally I like this story more than most of the original book and first few after. Rich story and imaginitave characters make this book a must read

About the Author
For the past twenty-two years, Dick Brogden has lived and worked among Muslims in Mauritania, Kenya, Sudan, and Egypt. He is the founder of Khartoum Christian Center and two initiatives to provide educational training for business development: Aslan Associates (Sudan) and iLearn (Egypt). He is also the founder of EDOSS, an NGO that helps the illiterate poor and refugees in Darfur, Sudan. He is the author of Saharan Siftings and Loving Muslims; he is the editor of Desert Rain, The Live|Dead Journal, and Live|Dead: The Journey.

Dick holds a PhD in Intercultural Studies. He and his wife, Jennifer, have two sons, Luke and Zack. They currently reside in Cairo, Egypt.

Live Dead is WORKING me!

The BEST daily devotional I've ever had the pleasure of working though-- many are too hit-or-miss, or surfacey, or plain. Live Dead is the real deal. It has a bible reading plan (though the bible in a year), devotional, and an unreached people group prayer focus. It's content-heavy and spiritually-revealing; and it will WORK you! Not for the faint of heart.

About the Author

Asit Kumar Datta is a former professor and ex-head of the Department of Applied Physics and later of the Department of Applied Optics and Photonics, University of Calcutta. He received his Ph.D. in power electronics from the University of Calcutta, and started his career at the same university as a lecturer. In 1989, he was appointed professor of the same department and later moved to the newly created department of Applied Optics and Photonics. Professor Datta has contributed significantly to the area of power electronics, control instrumentation, photonics, and optical computing. He executed 12 funded and sponsored research projects and has published more than 120 papers in national and international journals and conference proceedings, and he has also guided 14 research students towards their Ph.D. degrees. Professor Datta is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, the Optical Society of India, and the Indian Society of Lighting Engineers. He represented India at the International Commission for Optics (ICO), Paris and was the Indian representative in two divisions of the International Commission of Illumination (CIE), Geneva.

Soumika Munshi received her M.Sc. (Tech.) degree followed by a Ph.D. in Applied Physics with a specialization in Optics and Optoelectronics from the University of Calcutta in 1996 and 2003, respectively. She joined as a scientist at the Instrument Research and Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehradun, a laboratory of the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), under the Government of India’s Ministry of Defence, in 2004. She is now associated with DRDO headquarters in New Delhi, and worked in between at the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad. Her areas of interest include: image processing, photonic computing, lasers, and photonic instrumentation. She has published and presented more than 30 papers in international and national journals and at conference proceedings.

Great Tractor Trailer Guide

I liked this book so much I bought an additional copy and gave it to my driving school. It is written in a way that the new driver needs. I especially like the section on backing the trailer. It outlines numerous scenarios that the driver will encounter and talks you through the authors thoughts on how to handle each situation. For me it was money well spent.

Good info but not very in depth

This book had some good ideas and insights, especially in practical advice like trip planning, communications and visualizing trailer manuvering. It did not necessarily follow a well thought out organization of chapters. It was worth what I paid for it but the Bumper to Bumper: The Complete Guide to Tractor-Trailer Operations is a better investment if you are looking for a more complete coverage of Tractor/Trailer operations.

About the Author
Cecil H. Jensen took an early retirement from teaching to devote his full time to technical writing. He held the position of Technical Director at the McLaughlin Collegiate and Vocational Institute, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, and has more than twenty-seven years of teaching experience in mechanical drafting. He was an active member of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Committee on Technical Drawings. Mr. Jensen has represented Canada at international (ISO) conferences on engineering drawing standards, which took place in Oslo, Norway and Paris, France. He also represented Canada on the ANSI Y14.5M Committee on Dimensioning and Tolerancing. He is the successful author of numerous texts including Engineering Drawing and Design, Fundamentals of Engineering Drawing, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing for Engineering and Manufacturing Technology, Computer-Aided Engineering Drawing, and Home Planning and Design. Before he began teaching, Mr. Jensen spent several years in industrial design. He also supervised the evening courses in Oshawa and was responsible for teaching selected courses for General Motors Corporation apprentices.

Jay D. Helsel has worked more than 35 years in education, having served as a professor of applied engineering and technology courses, chairperson of the Department of Applied Engineering and Technology, and Vice President for Administration and Finance at California University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Helsel has had extensive experience teaching mechanical drafting at both the secondary and post-secondary levels and has worked in industry as well. He holds an undergraduate degree from California University of Pennsylvania, a master's degree from the Pennsylvania State University, and a doctoral degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Helsel is now a full-time writer and has authored publications such as Engineering Drawing and Design, Fundamentals of Engineering Drawing, Programmed Blueprint Reading, Computer-Aided Engineering Drawing, and Mechanical Drawing: Board and CAD Techniques, as well as various workbooks and other ancillary products associated with the above publications.

A Good Engineering Drawing book

After I purchased this book, I realized that the book looked very much like a sub-set of the 1200 page Engineering Drawing and Design by David Madsen published by Delmar.

This is a very good text/reference book that is written very well for anyone who is looking to learn and to create engineering drawings. The book is very user friendly, with numerous illustrations and white area. The book covers the in-depth ASME drawing standards. If you are looking for a great book that covers both drawing and design, purchase the Engineering Drawing and Design book. It is more expense, but you get 500 pages of additional design information.

Little details on subjects, trying to catch to many readers

I unfortunetly have used this book on several occasions. This book is so packed with info it makes it confusing. If this was four seperate books, teaching seperate catagories of trades this might be a good book, but its not. Trying to teach engineers, welders, drafters and machinists out of the same book, does not work. Dont waste your money or time on this book. Also from Version one to the newest version same info different chapters. What a waste of paper.
