Terrific Addition to the Saga of Mageborn
By Amazon Customer
Michael G. Manning has hit another home run in his latest book for the Mageborn series. With the release of Mageborn: The God-Stone War the series takes a turn towards the darker and grittier side as Mord continues to struggle with defending his home and family from odds that are stacked against him. This book is set 7 years after the last book in the series, and you can see some very significant character growth in how all of the characters are more mature. This puts a very realistic spin to the relationships all of the characters enjoy. Additionally, the author's use of foreshadowing is amazingly well done, driving home some of the points you see throughout the book. In closing, I'll simply state that this book continuously leaves you wondering how all the loose ends will tie themselves off in book 5. I can't wait to get my hands on it!

HOLY ****
By Bryce
Book four starts off very slow with us finding out what has been going on for the last several years. This is interesting and somewhat boring at the same time. When the story finally picks up it does so in a big way until...it slows again. Its much like a rollarcoaster, up and down up and down.

One of the biggest disappointments in this book was the characters. Everything seemed muted compared to previous books. No character really stood out in book 4 either in humor or in any real emotion. It almost seemed as thoguh they were just making token appearances.

I would say this book was not really a main installment in the series but more a step towards something greater. An important step yes but it never seemed to continually advance the story. Mort stalled ALOT in this book. All of that does not mean much in the end however. We finally learn some things about the She'Har and its quite interesting. Then there is the ending. Emotional? Yep. Game changing? Check. I quite simply am having a heard time believing what i just read at the end and am VERY interested in where the story goes from here

Done it again! The best so far!
By Richard Edelman
Michael Manning has done it again! Mageborn: The God-Stone War is the best book in the series so far!

It takes place seven years after the last book, and the characters have grown and matured accordingly. Skipping seven years ahead, I don't find myself feeling as if I'd like to know more about what happened in those seven years, like I have in other series that have skipped ahead in time. Mr. Manning covers the past seven years in enough detail to satisfy my curiosity without interfering with the current storyline, or leaving me feeling as if you wish he would "get on with it."

The book is not only full of action, but there is also plenty of backstory and character development of both new and returning characters. Mort faces a series of challenges, both magical and personal. These challenges force him to make some rash decisions as well as rely on precautions already put in place. Not everything goes to entirely to plan, however.

Mr. Manning makes excellent use of foreshadowing and plot twists throughout the story. It is one you will not want to put down until you have read the entire book, and then you will want to read it all over again to make sure you didn't miss anything.

The entirety of the series is an absolute terrific story -- one worth endless re-reads.

At the time of writing this review, the price for the Kindle book is $4.95 USD, although I would have gladly paid even five times that, so much have I enjoyed not just this book, but this series.

I am afraid that Mr. Manning has outdone himself this time. While book 5 will undoubtedly be worth the wait, his clamoring fans will be quite impatient to read more about Mort and his friends. I count myself amongst the impatient.
